What is DDM?
DDM, or Diabetes Dance Marathon, is Warwick Valley High School's first dance marathon. The object of the marathon is to promote awareness about diabetes and raise funds to help find a cure. All of our donations will go to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, an organization devoted to researching and finding a cure for Diabetes. The club will be held in the Warwick Valley High School for students who are interested in participating in the organization of DDM.
People who are participating as Dancers in DDM are required to raise at least $50 to be allowed to attend, or $25 if the Dancer attends a neighboring high school. Dancers are not made to dance, and are essentially the ones who fundraise most for Diabetes Dance Marathon. Dancers raise money for Diabetes Research by signing out pledge sheets, holding bake sales, getting online donations, and much more.
Although DDM will have a lot of fun stuff going on at the big event, the club's main goal is to increase awareness and prevention for Diabetes. We hope to do so by promoting healthy exercising and eating habits, showing students healthier food options, and much more! The habits one creates as a young adult can be carried throughout a lifetime, so the DDM Club hopes to create a Diabetic-free future for our generation. Type 1 and 2 Diabetics, Dietitians, and local experts will also be invited to the dance marathon to share their experiences with the disease. Many more Diabetes-oriented activities are in store for Dancers, too!
