So You Think You Can Dance?
The most-asked question about becoming a Dancer is "I don't like to dance, I can't dance, and/or I won't dance in front of others. Therefore I am not becoming a Dancer."
Guess what? Dancers aren't at the marathon to dance (although I'm sure you'll be doing a lot of this anyway). They are there to raise money for Diabetes Research, since all of their fundraising goes towards the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. Dancers are an integral component of the Diabetes Dance Marathon. Without Dancers, there would be no marathon! Dancers will fundraise a minimum of $50 if they attend Warwick Valley High School, and $25 if they attend a neighboring high school. They will do so by attending fundraising events run by DDM Club as well as creating some of their own.
Dancers will be at the marathon for twelve straight hours, but it will be jam-packed with free games, food, and of course DANCING! If you are able to do the following, then I suggest you become part of the Dancer family:
1. Party ALL night long for an amazing cause. Dancers dance not because they want to show off some moves, but to support Diabetes Research.
2. Attend one mandatory meeting with our peppy Dancer Relations Committee. There you will register and find out more about fundraising and being a Dancer.
3. Reach your fundraising minimum and even go beyond it! One individual Dancer and one dance team will receive a big prize for the most amount raised.
4. Attend or make fundraisers of your own. From bake sales to benefit dinners, the sky's the limit!
5. Have the most fulfilling night of your life! There will be a mix of local and non-local Diabetics that will share their stories, along with many more special surprises.
Become a Dancer and attend the biggest party of the year! The Diabetes Dance Marathon Club can't wait to see you there.
The Dance Team and Captains
Every Dancer will be a part of a team, but whether a Dancer wants to fundraise as a group or as an individual is there choice. Dance Teams are created so every Dancer has the option of getting to know other Dancers before the event, including Dancers that are not from the Warwick Valley School District. It also spurs on some friendly rivalry between teams, since the team with the most amount fundraised wins a prize at DDM.
When Dancers register, they can choose their Dance Captain or have it chosen for them. Dance Captains are there to help Dancers fundraise their $50, contact club members, and keep their morale high for the Diabetes Dance Marathon! Each team has between 5-10 Dancers, and the team is united under the Dance Captain. If you are interested in becoming a Dance Captain, then check out the Dance Captain Page.
